Luke & Casey: Two Brothers, Two Paths to Success
Luke’s Journey: Learning to Commit to Excellence
When we first met Luke, his mother, Julie, described him as a creative and inventive thinker who loved building things and was a competitive basketball player. He had big dreams of playing for a Patriot League school, but sometimes he settled for a “B” instead of pushing for an “A.”
From the start, we made it clear that test prep required 100% effort, and if Luke wasn’t ready to commit, we wouldn’t continue working with him. Luke took that challenge seriously, and he chose ACT as his test.
Luke’s biggest hurdle was rushing through his test. His tutor focused on teaching him how to slow down and take a careful, strategic approach. Over time, Luke learned the difference between doing “B” work and “A” work on the ACT and what it took to truly maximize his potential.
His dedication paid off—after months of hard work, Luke increased his ACT score by seven points (equivalent to 330 points on the SAT). This impressive gain reflected not just academic achievement, but also a newfound commitment to excellence. Luke took these skills with him to Lehigh University, where he achieved his dream of playing basketball at the collegiate level.
Casey’s Journey: Striving for Perfection
Two years later, Luke’s younger brother, Casey, came to RTC for his own test prep journey. Unlike Luke, Casey was a high-achiever who expected excellence in everything he did. At just sixteen, he was already investing in the stock market.
Casey aimed for Ivy League schools and a top-tier score. His strengths were in Math and Science, where he thrived on solving the hardest problems ACT could throw at him. From day one, his tutor challenged him to be meticulous and precise—because at his level, every point mattered.
The English and Reading sections, however, did not come as easily. While he had a natural instinct for Math and Science, the grammar rules and test structure of the English section required patience and practice. He worked on test design strategies for months, and though progress was slow, he finally mastered the section after his first official ACT attempt.
The Reading section was his biggest challenge. Casey’s tutor knew that to unlock his full potential, he needed intense, focused work on timing and comprehension strategies. Together, they refined his approach, ensuring he could manage time efficiently and tackle the section with confidence.
Clutch Performance & Ivy League Success
In his final ACT attempt, Casey achieved his best-ever Reading score of 34 and a perfect 36 in Science. His composite score of 35 (equivalent to 1550 on the SAT) placed him in an elite category of test-takers.
His incredible performance earned him acceptances to both Harvard and Stanford University, and he chose to join Stanford’s Class of 2026.
Different Paths, Same Dedication
Luke and Casey’s stories highlight an important lesson: every student has a unique test-taking journey. That’s why they were matched with different tutors and customized plans—ensuring each had the tools and strategies to reach his full potential.
Both brothers pushed themselves, worked hard, and achieved outstanding results on the ACT. Congratulations, Luke and Casey!
