Opening: STEM Subject Tutor (Independent Contractor)

Russell Tutoring & Consulting is currently seeking kind, knowledgeable, reliable, and enthusiastic subject tutors who are passionate about teaching STEM subjects, from the most simple levels to AP. We are a growing, independently-owned full-service tutoring company that offers tutoring in the greater Philadelphia area and to students across the country. We offer test prep, academic, and writing tutoring, as well as K-12 and adult mindfulness coaching. Every tutor and coach who works with us is fully supported in every student program. We guarantee both our tutors’ and our students’ success!
This is a contract position. Most subject tutors work during the school year.
As an Academic Tutor with RTC, you’ll meet with students 1-2-1 virtually each week. Evening and weekend availability is a must. During your sessions, you will support students in middle school and high school who need study support in their STEM subject area(s). Some of these students will also need scaffolding support in study skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 2 years’ experience tutoring students. Please speak to this experience specifically in your cover letter.
- Have a passion for supporting students on their path to success. We want our students to feel valued, heard, and important!
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of all student and family information.
- Ability to tutor students thoroughly in assigned content according to the student assignment.
- Ability to customize tutoring to a student’s individual needs and manage all aspects of scheduling and maintaining a student program independently.
- Ability to tutor skillfully virtually.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Reliability, initiative, and promptness.
- Ability to maintain a minimum load of 2 students.
- Ability to work after school and weekend hours. You tell us when you’re available, and we find students that fit your schedule.
- Desire to commit to a longer-term seasonal contract position preferred — at least 2 years.
Responsibilities
- Invest in every student’s success with dedication, compassion, and kindness. We believe in clear student-teacher and work-life boundaries, but we understand that for students to grow, their teachers must invest.
- Practice equity, equality, and inclusion.
- Commit to work with each assigned student from the start to the end of their tutoring journey at RTC.
- Contact each tutoring family within 24 hours of receiving their student assignment.
- Schedule, communicate, and keep appointments in a timely manner based on established company norms.
- Immediately inform RTC of any lesson cancellations or rescheduling.
- Thoroughly prepare for each lesson and begin every lesson promptly.
- After each lesson, write progress notes (~1 page) within 24 hours, based on RTC company guidelines.
- Meet collaboratively for 15-30 minutes weekly with RTC to nurture students toward success.
- Communicate with students and parents as needed about their tutoring programs.
- Inform RTC expediently of any acute concern with a tutoring program.
- Any other reasonable duties as deemed appropriate by RTC.

- Flexible schedule: we require our tutors to have a minimum student load of 2. Beyond that, we offer as many or as few hours and clients as you’d like. Some of our tutors are very busy!
