Russell Tutoring & Consulting is a growing, independently-owned boutique tutoring company that offers virtual tutoring to students across the United States and around the world. We also offer in-person tutoring in our West Philadelphia office. We specialize in mindful test prep and also provide academic tutoring for all subjects and ages.
We’re seeking knowledgeable, reliable, enthusiastic, and inspirational tutors for mindful SAT and ACT test prep; we will especially consider tutors who have either mindfulness experience or training, or who are also qualified to tutor GRE/GMAT and/or other STEM subjects or Writing.

Qualifications
- Availability for after-school and weekend virtual tutoring, 12 pm-9pm PST. The successful candidate must have multiple weeknight evenings and one weekend day (6 hours) available for students in Pacific Time Zones.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- A passion for supporting diverse students on their path to success.
- A genuine interest in teaching holistic college-readiness skills through mindful test prep.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of all student and family information.
- At least two years’ experience tutoring ALL sections of ACT and/or SAT (does not have to be the 2024 SAT), OR the ability to score 1430+ on the SAT or 32+ on the ACT under timed testing conditions.
- Willingness to commit to well-compensated training. New tutors participate in 6-30 hours of training, depending upon their SAT/ACT tutoring experience level.
- Ability to maintain a minimum load of 3 students (approximately 6 hours of tutoring per week), preferably more.
- Openness to learning mindfulness performance coaching strategies and implementing them with students in test prep.
- Ability to tutor students effectively in assigned content according to the student assignment and RTC guidelines.
- Ability to center in the student and make the student’s needs the driver of each lesson.
- Ability and adaptability to tutor skillfully virtually.
- Knowledge of Desmos and TI-84 calculators.
- Ability to manage all aspects of lesson scheduling and administration independently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Reliability, initiative, and promptness.
- Positivity, creativity, collaboration, flexible thinking, and a desire to grow.
- Desire to commit to a long-term contract position — at least 2 years. We invest in training and mentoring our tutors, so we ask that you come to us with longer-term employment in mind. Our tutors generally stay with us for years.
Responsibilities
- Invest in every student’s success with dedication, compassion, and kindness. We believe in clear student-teacher and work-life boundaries, but we understand that for students to grow, their teachers must invest.
- Practice equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Commit to work with each assigned student from the start to the end of their tutoring journey at RTC.
- Contact each tutoring family within 24 hours of receiving their student assignment.
- Schedule, communicate, and keep appointments in a timely manner based on established company norms.
- Immediately inform RTC of any lesson cancellations or rescheduling.
- Thoroughly prepare for each lesson.
- Teach students test prep according to RTC’s mindful philosophy and student-centered approach.
- After each lesson, write progress notes (1 page of bullet points) within 24 hours, based on RTC company guidelines.
- As needed, collaborate with Mindfulness Performance Coaches in supporting students toward success.
- Meet collaboratively for 15-30 minutes weekly with RTC to nurture students toward success.
- Communicate with students and parents as needed about their tutoring programs.
- Inform RTC expediently of any acute concern with a tutoring program.
- Cheerlead your students: as appropriate, text them before and after their Test Day.
- Collect data: have your students send you a voice memo after Test Day describing their specific and detailed test experience; share details with their coach and RTC as needed.
- Collect student ACT or SAT score results and communicate them to RTC promptly.
- As needed, provide input to RTC after your student’s SAT and ACT test results about possible next steps if your student wishes to continue tutoring toward their score goal. At RTC, we provide educational recommendations, and we will value your input as your student’s trusted teacher.
- Post score summaries and ask for family reviews.
- Any other reasonable duties as deemed appropriate by RTC.

- Flexible schedule: we require our tutors to have a minimum student load of 3. Beyond that, we offer as many or as few hours and clients as you’d like. Some of our tutors are very busy!
